NextGen Services was founded in March 2013 with a simple observation: the smaller the business, the more its owner is asked to be an expert in everything — sales, systems, compliance, reporting and technology — usually all on the same day. We exist to take a meaningful share of that load, and to make the machinery of the business run the way its owner always hoped.
Our story
We began as a small advisory practice working with local businesses in Melbourne, helping owners untangle commercial questions and put better structure around their day-to-day operations. From the start, our approach was different from the consulting style many SME owners had experienced before: we did not deliver a report and leave. We stayed, helped implement the recommendations, and took responsibility for the results.
Over the following years, two things became clear. First, the operational problems our clients faced were rarely just commercial or just technical — they were both at once. A scheduling problem was also a software problem; a reporting problem was also a process problem. Second, small and medium businesses were being offered software that assumed resources they did not have, and advice that assumed budgets they could not justify.
So the practice grew deliberately into what it is today: an integrated business support and technology partner with three connected practices — Business Advisory, IT & Digital Solutions, and Project Support. The same team that reviews your processes can help automate them, coordinate the rollout, and build the reporting that proves it worked.
Working sessions with clients are structured, documented and focused on decisions — not slideware. What we do today
Our work sits at the point where commercial judgement meets technical delivery. In practice, that means three things we do exceptionally well, and refuse to stretch beyond.
- Business Advisory. Process review and optimisation, and support for market entry and commercial strategy — grounded in how your business actually runs, not how an org chart says it should.
- IT & Digital Solutions. System consulting, workflow automation, and cloud migration advisory. We prefer to connect and streamline the tools you already own before recommending anything new.
- Project Support. End-to-end project coordination with honest reporting, disciplined data analysis and operational governance — so improvements stick after the project closes.
How we think
Four principles shape every engagement we take on, and they have not changed since 2013.
- Understand before recommending. We never propose a solution before we have watched the work happen, spoken to the people doing it, and traced the data behind it.
- Small, certain steps beat large, hopeful ones. A change that lands safely this month is worth more than a transformation plan that might land next year.
- Everything is documented. If it isn't written down, it isn't finished. Your business should be able to run its improved processes without us in the room.
- Plain language, always. Our reports are written to be read by busy owners, not to impress other consultants.
Who we work with
Our clients are Australian small and medium enterprises — typically businesses with between five and one hundred staff that have outgrown their original systems and habits. They are found in retail and distribution, professional services, construction and trades, manufacturing, health and community services, and agriculture. What they share is a willingness to change how the work flows, once they can see clearly why it should.
We are deliberately a boutique practice operating from one location. That is not a limitation; it is the product. Every client works with the same senior people from first conversation to final handover, and nothing is handed off to a junior team after the contract is signed.
Where we work
Our office is at Level 4/303 Collins Street, Melbourne VIC 3000, in the heart of the Melbourne CBD. Most of our clients are Victorian, but our advisory, automation and reporting work is routinely delivered remotely to businesses in New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland. Distance changes the logistics, never the standard.
“The businesses that recover fastest from staff turnover, market shifts and growth spurts are the ones whose operations were designed deliberately. Our job is to help you design yours that way — once, properly, and at a price that makes sense for a business of your size.”Every engagement closes with the client team stronger, better documented and less dependent on any one person.
What we are not
We are not a staffing agency, a managed service provider with a ticket queue, or a software reseller working on commission. We do not accept referral fees from vendors, and we do not recommend tools we would not use ourselves. If the honest answer to your problem is “you don't need us for this”, we will tell you — and tell you what to do instead.
Frequently asked questions
Is NextGen Services a large consultancy?
No — and that is by design. We are a boutique practice based in Melbourne, Victoria, which means the senior people who scope your engagement are the ones who deliver it.
Do you work with businesses outside Victoria?
Yes. While most of our clients are Victorian, we deliver advisory, automation and reporting work remotely for businesses across Australia.
What size businesses do you work with?
Typically Australian SMEs with five to one hundred staff that have outgrown their original systems and processes.
Do you sell software?
No. We accept no commissions or referral fees from vendors, and we configure tools you already own before recommending anything new.
Want to see whether we're a fit?
A short, structured conversation is usually enough for both of us to know.
